The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele and the Managing Director of the Financial Institutions Training Center (FITC), Ms. Chizor Malize are expected to address stakeholders on financial inclusion during the 3rd upcoming edition of ‘The Industry Summit/Award’ in Lagos.
The Industry Summit, formerly The Industry Evening Summit, is organized by The Industry Newspaper and is scheduled to take place in Ikeja Lagos on Tuesday, April 26, 2022.
This year’s event, which is the third in its series, is themed: “Financial Inclusion, Digital Payment and the Challenges of Banking the Unbanked”.
The event will be chaired by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the special guest of honor is the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel.
A statement from the Summit/Awards organizer and industry newspaper editor, Mr. Goddie Ofose, revealed that “the event is envisioned to bring together thought leaders in the Nigerian business landscape to to relaunch conversations that would deepen financial inclusion and propose a solution to the challenges of banking the unbanked.
According to him, Nigerians who have access to financial services lack basic resources and the financial literacy needed to transact, pointing out that lack of education on financial services has likely contributed to low financial inclusion.
He stressed that, “in a quest to extend financial services to the unbanked, especially those in remote and rural areas, it is essential that we start a conversation about the viability of agents. Agents are storefront operators representing financial service providers with the delivery of financial services.”
In addition, the awards ceremony will see the presentation of awards to great personalities such as Biodun Shobanjo as Africa’s Dean of Publicity, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State as Governor, six first ladies from each geopolitical zone with the best PET projects, among others.
