Beginning on the 360's one year birthday, Microsoft will offer movie, TV and content downloads from partners such as Warner Bros., Comedy Central, MTV, Paramount, Turner and CBS through XBox Live. TV shows will be able to be downloaded to own, while movies will be rented. HD and SD programming will be available.

Except for Akimbo, Microsoft has basically beaten the mainstream players to HD content downloads on a device that most people already have connected to a TV. To date, movie download services have been plagued by poor implementations and computer-only use. We're excited to see what XBox Live can do. Price, transparency and user experience will be key to success in this space.
