As expected, Steve Jobs announced Apple TV at MacWorld Expo 2007.

Apple TV is the new HD set-top box that allows users to watch and listen to iTunes content on an HDTV. Content can be auto-synced from one Mac or Windows computer, or streamed from up to five computers on the home network. Apple TV will be able to play video from the iTunes Store as well as other MPEG-4, H.264 encoded video in sizes up to 1280 x 720.

Audio files that can be played in iTunes will also play on the Apple TV including MP3, AAC, protected AAC from the iTunes Store, Apple Lossless, Audible audio books, AIFF and WAV.

Slide shows from photos in JPEG, BMP, GIF, TIFF and PNG formatted files can also be displayed in resolutions up to 1280 x 720.

The 7.7" x 7.1" x 1.1" device includes:

  • Intel Processor
  • 40GB hard drive for storing content locally
  • HDMI audio and video output
  • Component video output
  • Optical audio output
  • Analog RCA stereo audio output
  • 10/100 Ethernet
  • USB 2.0
  • 802.11n WiFi
  • Apple Infrared Remote

Apple TV will be available in February for $299.00.
