Yamaha YSP-1100SLWho's on the tag?
Is there a special person on that gift list who still uses built-in TV speakers? Do you think they'd enjoy a no-hassle surround sound system without wires or rear speakers? If so, the Yamaha YSP-1100 Digital Sound Projector is the ticket. A single 41" wide, 27lb speaker that contains 40 computer-amplified tweeters and 2 woofers, it provides true Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Prologic II and DTS Neo:6 (and more) surround sound decoding with amazing accuracy.

What's in the box?
The YSP-1100 speaker, remote control, batteries and optimizer microphone. As a home theater switcher, amplifier and speakers, YSP-1100 lets you connect your TV and other players and switch between them with full surround sound with just one device.

What's to like... or not?
Upside: Elegant one-piece design, easy setup, excellent results, very good value.

Downside: No HDMI switching, no component upscaling, no on screen display. For kickin' bass, the $120 add-on subwoofer is necessary.

What's the damage?
$1,499.99

Thinking about this for my new house I just bought. The LR is not readily open for running a 5:1 wiring so I was thinking on perhaps going with the YSP-1100.. My LR is laid out with a FirePlace on one end of the 19'x15' LR and I would be putting the TV center in the corner (only spot for it). I am thinking on going with the new Samsung LNT4065 (only have 41" of room). Getting back to the YSP-1100, the LR wall (opposite the FirePlace is open to the kitchen with only a 2' header up on the ceiling w/ a 1' wall segment on both sides).

Will this YSP-1100 work ok in this room and will it justify the $1500 I will have to shuck out ? I know I will also need a small subwoofer w/ this also..

Thanks,

Zman

Because of the limitations in your room, I suggest you buy the Yamaha with the ability to return it. It bounces sound and works very well, but can struggle if there's nothing to bounce off of. And yes, it does need a subwoofer.
