XBox 360 and HD-DVD PlayerWho's on the tag?
Your Xbox'er whose Xbox 360 is connected to an HDTV is a perfect recipient for the newly released Xbox 360 HD-DVD Player. If they don't already have HDTV and an Xbox 360, don't bother.

What's in the box?
The Xbox 360 HD-DVD Player adds an external HD-DVD drive to an Xbox 360. The Player lets users play back the new high definition HD-DVD discs available from Netflix and others. While we currently don't recommend an investment in a stand-alone HD-DVD or Blu-ray player, we think adding the Xbox 360 HD-DVD Player to an existing HDTV and Xbox 360 setup offers a logical and economical way to experience HD movies. It comes with the drive and universal remote.

What's to like... or not?

Upside: An inexpensive way to get HD-DVD with 5.1 audio capability in your home theater.
Downside:
No HDMI or 7.1 audio capability unless Microsoft supports it in the future.

What's the damage?

Can you double check the audio capability?
Last I heard you need a HDMI cable to get the Dolby Plus or Dolby True HD. I purchased an ONKYO 7.1 system hoping to take full advantage of the 7.1 and I hope I will be able to notice the difference. :-

The Honan:

You are correct. Currently there's no 7.1 capability on the HD-DVD drive with the Xbox 360. The drive itself will support the HD-DVD content and supported file formats, but the Xbox 360 won't support more than 5.1 right now.
